Introduced in 1999, only 5 years after A. Lange & Söhne introduced its first collection in 1994, the Datograph (Dat(e) + (Chron)ograph) is one of the first in-house developed chronograph wristwatches following the quartz crisis. It was in production for 12 years from 1999 to 2012 up until the introduction of the Datograph Up/Down. The Datograph is particularly famous for its movement architecture, finish and unconventional dial and case design.
The first generation Datograph was produced in several combinations, the most well-known being the platinum case with black dial and white sub-dials reference 403.035. Apart from the standard collection pieces, A. Lange & Söhne made very very few piece uniques for the management at the time, possibly with prototype dials. The Datograph listed and sold here is in platinum case with full black dial and black date discs, crafted in the "Darth" configuration. A magnificent piece of art, and one of the most important A. Lange & Söhne watches ever made.
