Lange 1 Daymatic — 320.047

Launched in 2010, the Lange 1 Daymatic is A. Lange & Söhne’s boldest experiment on the most sacred canvas: the Lange 1 dial was mirrored, the hand-wound movement replaced with the in-house L021.1 automatic caliber; a movement conceived in 2002 but held back for nearly a decade. What it gives you is a retrograde jumping day-of-the-week indicator in place of the power reserve, a full rotor with a platinum rim and engraved solid gold centre, and four interlocking bridges where there was once a three-quarter plate; all within 1 mm of the original Lange 1’s thickness.

The Daymatic with blue dial 320.047 is among the rarest expressions the Daymatic ever took. Produced for Oeding-Erdel, a Münster jeweller founded in 1907, to mark their 111th anniversary in 2018, eleven pieces were made in white gold with a blue dial. The blue does not differ from the classic 320.028. What makes this watch special however is revealed at the back: A hunter caseback with Oeding-Erdel 111 Jahre engraving, and further engraving on the caseback ring “1 von 11”. This is one of the last special editions A. Lange & Söhne ever made for a long-standing retailer. Daymatic Oeding-Erdel signifies the end of an era, in the most tasteful, beautiful and under-the-radar way possible.
